Acupuncture: Traditional and Classical
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a healing method that originated in China and has been used for centuries to address the problems of body and mind. It involves the insertion of fine, hair-like needles into the body at specific points. Classical Chinese medical theory explains that either an imbalance or a blockage of the energy circulating through the body causes pain and disease. Both Traditional and Classical Acupuncture restores the balance to the flow of energy, returning the body to a healthy state.

How many treatments will I need until I feel better?
The number of treatments needed varies widely according to the condition. Acute problems are easier to treat and respond quickly, and you may need only a single treatment.
However, for chronic cases, one treatment per week is often recommended, which may be needed for several weeks to several months. Occasional treatments throughout the year are usually sufficient to maintain good health.
What can I expect when I come in for an appointment?
With acute conditions (rapid onset of a symptom), the initial visit with Dr. Lori Horan is one hour. During that time, you will receive an assessment and an Traditional Acupuncture treatment.
With chronic conditions (symptoms lasting for several weeks at a time), a more comprehensive assessment is required, and the initial appointment is two hours. During the first hour, you will receive an assessment by Dr. Lori Horan, during which time she will discuss the following with you:
- Your health goals
- Current symptoms
- Current medications, both prescribed and over-the-counter
- Current nutritional supplements
- Current diet, exercise and sleep habits
- Current stress level
- Past and/or current lab results
- Major body systems.
During the second hour, you will receive your initial Classical Acupuncture treatment.
At the end of your visit, you will also receive recommendations in one or more of the following areas to enhance the restoration of health and normal movement of the body:
- Supplements
- Foods to Avoid
- Stress-Reducing Exercises
- Lab Testing
- Adjunctive Therapies
Follow-up sessions are one hour, and spaced 1 week apart, or as recommended by Dr. Horan.
